The Pelican Rapids Lady Vikings girls basketball team hosted the Perham Yellowjackets in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference contest in Pelican Rapids Jan. 13 and came up short 49-39.

“Overall, we were pleased with our effort and we had our chances down the stretch,” said coach Brian Korf.

Both teams battled to start the game and shared baskets but the Vikings found themselves down by six points at halftime, 28-22.

In the second half, the Vikings cut the lead to four points with four minutes left in the game but could not get the ball to drop. “We had good looks at the basket but could not get one to drop,” said Coach Korf.

The Vikings had 14 turnovers while the Yellowjackets had 4 turnovers.  Pelican Rapids shot 31.8% and Perham shot 35.3% from the field.

Adriana Torres (14 points, 13 rebounds) recorded a double-double to lead the Vikings.  Sarah Thompson chipped in with 8 points and 4 rebounds and Morgan Berg pulled down 9 rebounds and 2 pionts.  Rachel Gottenborg scored 5 points and pulled down 3 rebounds.  Maddie Guler had 3 points and 3 rebounds and Greta Tollefsen had 3 points.  Abby Johnson and Kristen Haiby chipped in 2 points each.

Pelican Rapids (5-7) was scheduled to host Ada-Borup on Tuesday night, Jan. 17 in a non-conference game.
