The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team hosted Barnesville Jan. 10 in a Heart O’ Lakes conference game.

The Vikings lost to the Trojans, 68-43.

“We played a solid second half and worked hard to improve on our mistakes in the first half,” noted Coach Brian Korf.

The Vikings struggled to rebound and score in the first half and found themselves down 37-16 at halftime.

In the second half, the Vikings found ways to score and improved on rebounding.  Barnesville scored 31 second half points and the Vikings scored 27 second half points.

The Vikings shot 33.3% from the field while Barnesville shot 45% from the field. The Vikings were outrebounded 32-27 and the Vikings had 20 turnovers while Barnesville had 14 turnovers.

Rachel Gottenborg (11 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Adriana Torres (10 points, 5 rebounds) were the leading scorers for Pelican Rapids. “Gottenborg had a nice game by getting to the basket and knocking down outside shots,” said Coach Korf.

Greta Tollefsen scored 6 points, Maddie Guler had 5 points, and Morgan Berg 4 points.  Sarah Thompson had 3 points and Anna Stephenson and Ryley Paulson had 2 points each.
