Lakes area gym owner and champion power lifter Tom  Haggenmiller won two silver medals at the World Power Lifting Championships in Las Vegas in November.

The event was at Ballys Hotel and Casino November 14-21. Haggenmiller, a longtime Crystal Lake resident near Pelican Rapids, was among a field of more than 600 lifters, representing at least ten nations from around the world.

Haggenmiller, who owns Perham-based Power Works Gym, took second place in both the bench press and dead lift events.  He competes in the senior division.

Though his lifts were a little less than last year’s meet, Haggenmiller was careful to meet his goal of staying in second place–and not end the meet with third place bronze medals in both events.

“I’m a year older, and the weights seem to get a little heavier each year,” laughed Haggenmiller.

This was his 18th year of qualifying for the world competition. During his nearly two decades of lifting at the world meet, he has captured first place seven times in the bench prest, dead lift and squat.

As owner of the Power Works Gym over the past 18 years, Haggenmiller said he enjoys working with the public–helping people lift for strength, or just for conditioning and fitness.
